"MonTara Kid" (I may have his handle wrong :-( ) was courteous enough to suggest I should join your forum and talk with a few good men :) Love the tagline "where wargaming and history collide." My father was a professional historian (though not a military history one) and I'm a long term wargamer (Gettysburg 76 was my start). I've had the good fortune to be leading a team of writers, artists, and former and current military in a newly revealed game Burden of Command. You can find a preview by Tim Stone at The Flare Path on Rock Paper Shotgun.
I won't go on in fear of overstepping bounds and looking like a marketer. But MonTara Kid felt you guys might be interested, it's a WWII tactical leadership RPG. I would be happy to answer questions or shut up.. as directed :)

cheers,
Luke

Shane that is gracious! You have it on that copy! Can I hope that Shane is a reference to the movie (one of my top ten) or are you just cool enough to have that as your real name? Great book too BTW.
OK, since you're made the mistake of opening the flood game a bit I'll throw one more link out. Youtuber thehistoricalgamer has done a nice 15 minute analysis of the game that has gotten a good reception. Gives you a good third party perspective on what we're up to. Hope you'll take a look at
Tim Stone's preview: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/06/30/the-flare-path-burden-of-command/
And now I'll stand by for questions, or the firing line, as the case may be.

regards,
Luke

I like friendly folk. Shane, release date still 2018. If you guys buy enough copies yes we are planning a series! Current suggestions from inside and outside the team:
-- German Late War -- nice kit, but every victory is pyrrhic as resources cannot be replaced, plus growing sense as a junior commander that the war is lost and that you might not be on the right side of things. Interesting book on the German mindset "The German War."
-- Soviet Commissar -- wouldn't that be wild. Similar psychological issues as well plus tension with the regular army
-- Chinese Civil War and with Japanese
-- Winter War - this has gotten a fair number of votes. Wonderful asymmetry plus nice to do a relatively tight time window.
-- Free Poles -- personal preference
-- Aussies!
-- Red Devils or other UK unit
-- pacific
-- also a fair number of calls for WWI. You're the first for modern warfare, but it's a very good suggestion. Delicate topic of course. Good book (IMHO) "Outlaw Platoon." Vietnam would be an obvious one as well.
Love to hear your votes or ideas.

Jesus with that Avatar.. YES SIR, @Meat Grinder. Actually I have. Primarily the original. Impressive and yes they have an excellent argument about lack of continuity in small unit personnel in the long term ;-)

p.s. and yes I have a response though it is not really to argue with their position ;-)
p.p.s. OhMiGawd should I have said yes Sergeant?

Welcome to the FGM @Luke Hughes -- nice to see a game developer talking to us directly (makes the FGM feel all grown up :D ) -- great concept for a game inserting a solid narrative aspect to the gaming.
We've been trying to do similar things with some of our team campaigns using CM as the base game to execute the battles and hex based maps to run the operational aspects, with a strong narrative with a GM running the story and throwing curveballs at the players (some of which I have been running -- although in current hiatus due to RL work pressures) -- have a look at http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/forums/cmfi-battle-for-heraklion.400/

Hello Luke, welcome to THE FEW GOOD MEN!
Good to have you with us! :)

I played a lot of "Soldiers at War" back in times and so I know what it means to lose or sacrifice your best, most valued and capable men.
Please buy the copyrights and revive "Soldiers at War", OK? :)

LOL! Excellent! Welcome aboard.

Cool name, BTW. Luke Hughes is a mans name. ;-)

Steering it back on topic quickly @Luke Hughes what exactly are you working on now in relation to the game not coming out until 2018... is it the storyline... mechanics... graphics?

My idea of modern warfare basically landed in my lap when thinking about the morales and stories associated with soldiering and how you would approach situations experienced in Iraq and Afghanistan.
