Perhaps they got a lot of flats.
Nothing like having a few extra tyres when going cross country. ;)

I was wondering also about how effective it was against AP.
Maybe better against a shaped charge like a faust(?)

Sherman tank named “Tokyo Express” disabled on Iwo Jima. Sherman got stuck in a crater on Iwo Jima after an artillery shell landed behind the tank, damaging the engine. See the wood affixed to the sides for extra armor, and welded on nails to the hatches to prevent enemy from attacking the crew.
Down, the same tank at the same place photographed on 2016.

Sherman number 74 "LA MOSKOWA" of the 2nd company of the 501st Tank Regiment (RCC) of General Leclerc's French Second Armored Div (2e Blindee Division), at Pré Catelan in the Bois de Boulogne, Paris.

The crew poses proudly in front of their tank. Pictured with "Marraine de guerre" (War Godmother) of the crew. 'War Godmothers' were volunteers who supported soldiers by sending letters of encouragement and gift packages.

Fighting with the 2 Div Blindée (2nd Armoured Division), La Moskowa fought through the Battle of Normandy and took part in the Liberation of Paris. On Nov 1 Nov 1944, the tank became immobilized during an attack at Hablainville in Meurthe-et-Moselle. Stuck in the mud, the tank was hit several times from enemy anti-tank guns, destroying the vehicle. Only driver survive.
