My reasoning is... in order to keep folks from bailing from the tourney should they do poorly in a couple of early games, and thereby skew the results and make more work for me. Keeping scores secret, keeps them in the game. After the tourney, it is my plan to get feedback from the players as to the efficacy of my decision.
When I tried to run this type tourney at the Blitz, players dropping was a real headache for me and ultimately led to it's failure.
