At least this kind of football is actually played with your feet!

The USA is in a difficult group. Ghana is probaly the strongest of the African teams and Germany and Portugal are very strong too. I think the European teams will advance to the next round.

A personal World Cup story....

I work here in New York for Honeywell Security. We have a large engineering department with many hardware and software engineers designing residential and commercial alarm systems and their peripherals.
We have engineers from all over the globe working here. We have engineers and technicians from several South American countries including Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, Columbia, Ecuador and San Salvador.
We have people from England, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Turkey, Iran, Israel, China, the Philippines and India.
And more.
(New York is truly a "melting pot")
This past week I have seen different color jerseys representing teams from all over the globe, yellows, reds, greens. blues and golds, a rainbow of colors.
I'm speaking/working with an engineer who is wearing what looks to be a really nice, very professional, looking red jersey. So I ask him what team wears that jersey.
He rolls his eyes and says "Don't you recognize the Spanish jersey" while pointing at a fancy gold emblem on his chest.
And then asks me "Who are you rooting for?"

Stunned for a second, I then laugh out loud and say, "The United States you nut. Who do you think I'd root for?"

I think the USA team could use a larger fan base.

Happens that this sport is not as important as it is in Brazil, Spain, Italy, England and others. -
Believe me, here the country stops when playing our selection in the World Cup. -
Everything revolves around the World Cup. -
It is certainly the only event that here unites the people every 4 years. -
It sounds crazy but that's the reality. -
