CMFB Campaign: The Railsplitters
The Railsplitters is the first of what may be a series of campaigns called The Combat Diaries. The campaign is designed as an interactive company sized series of missions where you are put in the shoes of the company commander. Your job is simple, take your company through as series of company sized engagements and complete your assigned missions, all while trying to keep key individuals, your platoon leaders and yourself alive.
Each platoon leader carries bounty points, 400 to be exact, and you as commander carry a 2000 point bounty. Obviously your death will end any mission but the loss of your platoon leaders, though still winnable, will add to the difficulty of continuing the campaign. Each platoon leader you start the campaign with will have a backstory (see below) to add to the personal interaction, and though they will be replaced after any losses, the replacements will pickup the same bounty.
You are Captain D. Adjure, commander of A Company, 334th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division, the Railsplitters. You will command 3 platoons as well as a weapons and pioneer platoon through actions in the Siegfried Line in Germany and later in the Ardennes in Belgium. Your mission will be to guide your men from their first actions in the muddy quagmire of the Geilenkirchen Pocket through 5 missions ending in the frozen country side of Belgium where you will be tasked with halting the German offensive in the Ardennes.
You will be in action with various other units but most of the battles retain the “company size” engagements. The idea behind this series is for you the commander to get down in the dirt with your men, to feel the fear and anxiety of close combat. Your orders will determine the fate of your platoon leaders. You will face hard decisions of whether to risk the mission success by protecting the men that you have trained with for many months, or put them in harms way to achieve the objectives. How well you control the situation will determine the success of the campaign.
As your men survive and move on to the next missions, their experience factors increase, making them more effective.
Each missions designer notes will be diary entries from the Company commander where you can follow the experiences he faces with each engagement.
All the missions are based off actual engagements of the 84th Infantry Division but should be considered semi-historical.
