Turns out the military is not building a death camp instead they are setting up a field hospital on the base.

This is contrary to what the news wants us to believe about the Feds. They are taking measures and preparing to assist the States as needed.

Do they still have MASH units? I am surprised they couldn't mobilize those and use their training budgets to pay for the deployments. Nothing like OJT to teach lessons.

Beginning tonight stores in Ohio are only to allow 22 people per 1000 square feet of space, as one leaves then another can enter. I understand the logic behind that but people aren’t logical all the time. If we start having lines outside of grocery stores I think there will be problems. I could be wrong but......we’ll see. Hell, I still can’t find toilet paper.

Damn... Who would have thought they would set up a hospital? While a virus is on the loose? But oh well, I'm sure they will build a death camp next time. Sticking to my guns.

There has been discussion why the percentage of fatal cases has been in Germany remarkably lower than in other major European countries.
This NYT article explains it in my opinion well.

from the NYT article:
... „The average age of those infected is lower in Germany than in many other countries. Many of the early patients caught the virus in Austrian and Italian ski resorts and were relatively young and healthy, Professor Kräusslich said. “It started as an epidemic of skiers,” he said. As infections have spread, more older people have been hit and the death rate, only 0.2 percent two weeks ago, has risen, too. But the average age of contracting the disease remains relatively low, at 49. In France, it is 62.5 and in Italy 62, according to their latest national reports.
Another explanation for the low fatality rate is that Germany has been testing far more people than most nations. That means it catches more people with few or no symptoms, increasing the number of known cases, but not the number of fatalities. “That automatically lowers the death rate on paper,” said Professor Kräusslich."...

... „ “The reason why we in Germany have so few deaths at the moment compared to the number of infected can be largely explained by the fact that we are doing an extremely large number of lab diagnoses,” said Dr. Christian Drosten, chief virologist at Charité, whose team developed the first test.
By now, Germany is conducting around 350,000 coronavirus tests a week, far more than any other European country. Early and widespread testing has allowed the authorities to slow the spread of the pandemic by isolating known cases while they are infectious. It has also enabled lifesaving treatment to be administered in a more timely way.
"When I have an early diagnosis and can treat patients early — for example put them on a ventilator before they deteriorate — the chance of survival is much higher,” Professor Kräusslich said."...

“Testing and tracking is the strategy that was successful in South Korea and we have tried to learn from that,” Professor Streeck said."...

... „ “We have so much capacity now we are accepting patients from Italy, Spain and France,” said Susanne Herold, a specialist in lung infections at the hospital who has overseen the restructuring. “We are very strong in the intensive care area.”
All across Germany, hospitals have expanded their intensive care capacities. And they started from a high level. In January, Germany had some 28,000 intensive care beds equipped with ventilators, or 34 per 100,000 people. By comparison, that rate is 12 in Italy and 7 in the Netherlands.
By now, there are 40,000 intensive care beds available in Germany. ..."

Interesting theory, and it seems to hold up when comparing to Danish numbers. In DK, we declared early on that we would only test severe cases. So one would assume that we would have a higher "on paper" death rate.

Currently, Germany (testing a lot) has 103,351 cases and 1,806 deaths, which means a death rate of about 1.74 pct.

Denmark (testing little) has 4,681 cases and 187 deaths. Giving a death rate of nearly 4 pct.

No country has or will have the capacity to undertake a Census of sorts of COVID-19 infections. You'd need to test everybody in your country within the same week.

It's about getting a valid sample that is a good reflection of those at risk and of the population of the country. Testing everyone that come in from overseas and forcing a quarantine while they wait for results was a no brainer decision. However, you are always going to miss someone that slips through the net or got through before you put up the net in the first place. The US was extremely late is putting up the net and are now paying the price - that is purely down to a gross failure of Federal Government as they are the only ones who can make that decision for the country. Yes it is a war like situation fighting a pandemic - no question, but the invaision doesn't require bullets and smart bombs, it requires testing kits, medical equipment, staff and good policy makers. The US lost the war in January when it ignored the enemy at it's shores (despite intelligence briefings!) and now have to fight on the home front with limited 'ammo', a lot of casualties and an economy that will tank, taking millions more livlihoods with it.

Back to statistics! The problem with sampling is that every country is doing it differently which means the baseline figures are all different. There's no common definition of the population in question. So getting some consistent figures right now is very very difficult. I'm sure some data nerds will work out a consistent global narrative after all this is done but for now it's a bit hard to compare each countries death rates with each other.

For now the story is simple. Stay home and play wargames. It's as easy as that. (Oh and eat / say hello to the wife once and while).

Today we have only had 74 new infected. But the deceased are 5, all men, 67, 68, 75, 77 and 83 years old.

It seems that the use of a mask will be mandatory when traveling on the street. Obviously there are no longer for sale in pharmacies and those that are available online tripled its price in less than a month.

My wife finally got to go back to work yesterday, she's been pretty restless after going from working part time 7 days a week (usually 5-7 hours a day), to completely quitting all work in anticipation of the little one coming home and being a full time mum, then that not happening, then Coronavirus mostly drying up her old jobs. Finally got one of her jobs back and never seen her so happy in the last month, which also makes my life easier!

As the saying goes, happy wife, happy life.

Went grocery shopping this morning 90% of things were in stock albeit less than normal. I did find some toilet paper! Things seem to be getting better on that front.

Haven't watched it since they took down the bloke with thee baseball bat.

I, too, am a fan of Negan and Lucille. :)

I worked the past three days. We have had several confirmed cases of COVID-19 at my hospital. I've scanned a couple of them. If a pt starts developing severe symptoms, it can show up on a CT chest as patchy, pneumonia like infiltrates.
