Let's all start digging a tunnel to North Korea.....after all, no cases at all in that country........

One can understand the USN's point of view.
However, in these exceptional times; I can't imagine the Navy brass being anymore tone deaf than this!
What a well deserved PR s*** storm they face.

Easy to place blame, *easy* to fire the Captain of an aircraft carrier, who seems to have the goodwill of his crew?

Shit storm is coming.

I don't think it's possible to not have people get infected on a ship. I also think that you are going to have an issue with people that live and work in skyscrapers being more prone to infection because it's an airborne virus and most habitats like these have a shared ventilation system. So I am not sure why they are making this captain a pariah, other than he is basically saying that the military establishment is dropping the ball and that is a big no no.

He did have the best intentions for his crew but he also threw OPSEC out the flippin window. Viral outbreak on a carrier, I have no doubts that the Navy was steaming over to him to get the situation under control. There are definitely plans in place for this sort of thing.

If someone in the pacific wanted to have a go then I couldn't think of a better target than a crippled US carrier and its escorts.

Edit:
After posting and then reading this I would like to say that maybe the leak wasn't on his side but on the receivers. It may be a case of scapegoat going on.

Here... 1,353 infected in total
42 dead in total

Pathetic the news that comes from Ecuador. Bodies abandoned on the streets! It seems like a biblical punishment to humanity.

India is having problems with the virus which is now in Dharavi. Seems like this could get really bad for those poor people.

As reported by CNN: The Dharavi slum, in the Indian financial capital of Mumbai. Home to around 1 million people, Dharavi slum has a population density of about 280,000 people per square kilometer.

My wife just received a message from her daughter who is an RN along with her boyfriend in Tacoma Washington. They are ”Travel Nurses” that just got out there at the beginning of all this. She said she just worked a 16 hour shift this past Saturday and another one on Sunday taking temperatures of folks that come into a hospital in Tacoma. She also is working 10 hour shifts during the week at her regular job. Gotta hand it to these folks
Tell them TFGM USA division is very grateful for their service. They are our foot soldiers in this war! They are definitely putting their lives on the line to help others. God bless.

It's gonna be tough times in the months ahead, men, both physically and fiscally, for many of us. You would think that I, working in a hospital, would be immune (lol) to the fiscal part, but that isn't the case. Our outpatient load in diagnostic imaging has hit new lows, because, who would have thunk, nobody wants to come to the hospital unless they absolutely have to. So management has asked us to "flex" hours, meaning go home without pay (or use your vacation time to make up the difference), when it's slow. I'm not complaining. There are many right now who are laid off and/or have no job to go to. I'm grateful for what hours I get to work, and gladly do whatever work I am given.

Am I worried about getting sick? A little, but I've been doing this for thirty two years now, and have been exposed to pretty much everything at this point, and I am a healthy 54 year old, so no, I'm not gonna stay home from work because of a virus.

Take care everybody, and stay safe.

Oh, and BTW @mTk , management is now making us wear surgical masks during all patient contact. Normal surgical masks probably do little to prevent the spread of COVID, but, IMO, it gives the illusion of "taking precautions". N95 masks, the real protection, are in short supply.
Same here. We just got word today that we have to take a week vacation and then another week of paid layoff. Ditto on your perspective of still having a job right about now.

Anyone else's car getting three weeks to the gallon at the moment?

Hormel Foods made their first batch of Spam in 1937.
With everyone out shopping and hoarding food they have announced they will be making their second batch later this week...

There should be a charge for taking these items back.... (call it an administration charge).....and it should equate to the cost of the items!!

The barefaced shame of it.
